Recently candidate Michael Shaffer come by our discussion group to introduce himself. Currently members of the group are asking him questions concerning his views. Why not join the conversation and ask him something that concerns you, as a citizen of North Carolina? The 9th district covers portions of Gaston, Union, and Mecklenburg counties, but it is well known that views of representatives are important to all residents of the state. This district is currently being served by Republican Sue Myrick.

This morning, I received an copy of the “Forsyth Insider” an electronic newsletter paid for by the Committee to Re-Elect Dave Plyler. The article about the proposed carry ordinance currently being debated by the Forsyth County Commissioners caught my eye. It is well know that Commissioner Plyler is opposed to allowing law abiding, conceal carry permit holders from exercising their God given right to self-defense while enjoying our parks. He supports an outright ban and is expected to break party lines by voting with his Democrat colleagues against the Second Amendment.
There are two references to “truth” in the newsletter. I thought it only right to provide you with the truth by correcting an egregious error perpetrated in the article. Commissioner Plyler states that the proposed pro-carry ordinance would include: “handguns (pistols), bowie knife, dirk, dagger, sling shot, loaded cane, metallic knuckles, razor, stun gun, or other deadly weapon of “like kind” unless otherwise authorized by law.”
This is totally false! The ordinance championed by Commissioner Whiteheart would only include handguns. The other weapons quoted by Plyler are already prohibited by NCGS 14-269. In fact, the aforementioned “weapons” are prohibited to be carried concealed “except when upon that person’s own premises”. I wanted to share the “truth” with everyone, please pass it along and please encourage your Republican County Commissioners to support the Second Amendment.
Obamacare expands government-controlled health care — passing the cost to future generations of taxpayers — and weakens families’ choice of coverage. Larry Patterson describes the impact Obamacare will have on his family and the concerns he has with the new law.
In 2006, when Indiana small-business owner Scott Womack purchased a development agreement to expand his IHOP franchise into Ohio, he had no idea Congress would pass a massive overhaul of the health care system four years later. Today, one year after that legislative overhaul became law, Womack is very aware of Obamacare — and of its effects on his plans for growth.
